MAKAKILO, Hawaii (KHON2) — A Honolulu Fire Department Fire Investigator has been requested for an early morning vehicle fire in Makakilo.

The 911 call came in on Sunday, Jan. 19 shortly before 4 a.m. when Honolulu Police Department requested HFD to assist with a vehicle fire on Palailai Street in Makakilo.

HFD sent one unit to the scene just a few minutes later to find the car had already been extinguished.

Officials said firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to find the vehicle’s smoldering hot spots. They then cooled the interior of the car down with water.

Police then requested the presence of an HFD Fire Investigator to further determine the origin and cause and provide damage estimates.

HFD said an investigation is ongoing and a final report will be released once completed.
