HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Maui Department of Water Supply (DWS) is reminding residents and visitors in Central and South Maui to continue conserving water as the region remains under a Stage 1 Water Shortage.
Water demand in the area has been rising recently, after initially tapering down when the Stage 1 Water Shortage was declared in September 2024.
The affected service areas include:
- Waiheʻe
- Waiehu
- Wailuku
- Kahului
- Spreckelsville
- Pāʻia
- Kuau
- Māʻalaea
- Kīhei
- Wailea
- Mākena
A Stage 1 Water Shortage is declared when the anticipated water demand is projected to exceed available supply by 1% to 15%.
Under the current restrictions, irrigation is limited to two days per week.
The DWS has set the following schedule to help manage water use:
- Even-numbered residential addresses: Monday and Friday
- Odd-numbered residential addresses: Tuesday and Saturday
- Even-numbered commercial facilities and multifamily units: Wednesday and Sunday
- Odd-numbered commercial facilities and multifamily units: Monday and Thursday
The DWS urges everyone to follow the schedule and reduce water usage wherever possible to ensure a steady supply for the community.
