Water demand in the area has been rising recently, after initially tapering down when the Stage 1 Water Shortage was declared in September 2024.

The affected service areas include:

  • Waiheʻe
  • Waiehu
  • Wailuku
  • Kahului
  • Spreckelsville
  • Pāʻia
  • Kuau
  • Māʻalaea

  • Mākena

A Stage 1 Water Shortage is declared when the anticipated water demand is projected to exceed available supply by 1% to 15%.

Under the current restrictions, irrigation is limited to two days per week.

The DWS has set the following schedule to help manage water use:

  • Even-numbered residential addresses: Monday and Friday
  • Odd-numbered residential addresses: Tuesday and Saturday
  • Even-numbered commercial facilities and multifamily units: Wednesday and Sunday
  • Odd-numbered commercial facilities and multifamily units: Monday and Thursday

The DWS urges everyone to follow the schedule and reduce water usage wherever possible to ensure a steady supply for the community.
