(NEXSTAR) — The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans is set to host its record-breaking eighth Super Bowl this year, reaffirming its status as an iconic venue in American sports. As the largest fixed dome structure globally, it comprises 20,000 tons of steel and nearly 400,000 square feet of aluminum, accommodating over 73,000 fans.
Despite being the NFL’s fifth-oldest stadium, recent renovations have rejuvenated the Superdome. Mike Hoss, the Voice of the Saints, highlighted these improvements: “They took a 45-year-old building and we made it better. We opened it up. We have all of these new levels and all of these escalators that take you from the bottom of the stadium to the top of the stadium.”
The Superdome holds a special place in the hearts of New Orleanians, a sentiment echoed by former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl champion Drew Brees. “It’s one of the greatest home atmospheres in all of sports,” he said. “And it is that way because of the connection that the city and the people and the fans of ‘Who Dat Nation’ have with their team.”
Reflecting on his Super Bowl victory, Brees shared, “I’d always dreamt that I would have a family and I’d have a son that I’d be able to hold up and share that moment with. And sure enough, that manifestation was just coming to life, right before our eyes.”
The Superdome’s prime location enhances its appeal. Hoss noted, “As you walk out of this building and go any direction, there are 26,000 walkable hotel rooms and, oh yeah, the French Quarter. So it’s a perfect place… Nobody does big events better than New Orleans.”
