You might be able to catch the next start of Kilauea eruption

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Whether you are near or far from Kilauea, you may be able to catch the start of the next eruptive episode.

Kilauea has been erupting since Dec. 23, when it began a dazzling series of fountaining within the summit caldera in Halemaʻumaʻu crater.

Eight episodes have come of the current eruption, with the most recent ceasing shortly before it reached a full 24 hours on Feb. 4.

A ninth episode is possibly expected soon.

“A new eruptive episode may begin within the next 2 days in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park,” the agency said in the newest volcano update.

The eighth eruption episode covered more than half of the crater floor. Vents in the crater continue to degas and a strong glow can be seen at night.

Hazards within the park and in nearby communities consist of vog and Peleʻs Hair.
