HONOLULU (KHON2) — The 54th annual Senior Valentine Dance returned to the Neal S. Blaisdell Exhibition Hall on Feb. 11, with kupuna joining together to celebrate love while dancing to music.
The free event was open to the public and welcomed dancers of all ages, though kupuna are the “stars of the show,” according to the Department of Parks and Recreation. Many participating kupuna are active members of Oʻahu’s Senior Clubs.
The Royal Hawaiian Band provided music for the dancers to boogie to, as well as VIP and local celebrities in attendance, including KHON2’s own Sam Spangler and Brigette Namata.
Music played included ballroom hits, line dances and pop music all in line with the event’s theme, “Diamond in the Sky.”
The Senior Valentine Dance dates back to 1969, and is one of the many events organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Senior Division. For more information about their kupuna events, visit their website.
