Hawaii Baseball Wins by Walk-Off on Opening Day

(HONOLULU, HI) The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Baseball Team got their season underway on Friday against Marshall at The Les Murakami Stadium.

Hawaii trailed in the 2nd inning after Marshall hit back-to-back solo homeruns to take a 2-0 lead.

In the 3rd inning, Marshall scored another 3 runs to push Hawaii’s deficit to 5. A single, Sacrifice Fly and a passed ball was the three ways the Thundering Herd scored in the 3rd.

The ‘Bows in the 4th inning finally getting on the board after a Takemoto single that went up the middle into center field that easily scored Ickes.

In the same inning, Kuni crushed a ball into right field for an RBI double.

Hawaii was able to score a solo run in the 5th inning off of a sacrifice fly into left field, but the Thundering Herd made it hard for UH to come back early as Marshall hit their 3rd homerun in the game to bring the Hawaii deficit back to 4.

Hawaii did not back down, as Sakaino finding the gap into left center in the bottom of the 6th inning that allowed 2 runs to cross the plate to pull the ‘Bows within 2.

Followed by a Miura RBI single into right field that would pull Hawaii within 1 run (7-6).

Hawaii in the 9th inning would tie it up after a RBI single and a passed ball which gave the Pinch Hitter, Nushida a chance at a big time play.

In the very 1st pitch of the at-bat, Nushida takes the ball deep to right field off the wall which brings in Lancaster for the game-winning run.

Hawaii walking it off for the game 1 win of the season 9-8.
