The University of Hawai‘i baseball team wrapped up its season-opening 12-game homestand in dramatic fashion Monday night, defeating Northeastern 3-2 in 12 innings at Les Murakami Stadium.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the 12th, Matt Miura stepped up with two runners on and two outs, delivering a walk-off RBI single to center to cap off another late-inning victory for the Rainbow Warriors.

The win marked Hawai‘i’s fourth walk-off of the season, as the ‘Bows took three of four games from Northeastern to improve to 10-2 on the year.

Both teams showcased stellar pitching, with Hawai‘i’s staff combining for 15 strikeouts across six pitchers. Cooper Walls got the start, working three innings, allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts.

The bullpen followed with dominant relief performances:

      •     Corey Ronan: 2.0 IP, 1 run, 1 hit, 3 strikeouts

      •     Zac Tenn & Isaiah Magdaleno: 4.0 combined IP, no hits, 5 strikeouts

      •     Freddy Rodriguez: 2.0 IP, no runs, 4 strikeouts

      •     Danny Veloz: 1.0 IP, no hits, earned the win in the 12th

For Northeastern, starter Jack Bowery was outstanding, tossing 10 innings, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out eight. At one point, he retired 19 consecutive batters, keeping the Huskies in the game.

Following the game, head coach Rich Hill credited his team’s resilience, particularly the grit of Hawai‘i’s local players.

“Absolutely, man. I was on a podcast this morning talking about local boys staying home or going to the mainland. And you know what? We get some tough Hawaiians, right? That’s what happened tonight,” Hill said on Spectrum Sports’ postgame show. “We are tough. I’m just so proud of this group—the pitching staff, the fans, the whole thing. Just really proud of these guys.”

Hawai‘i closes out its homestand at 10-2 and now turns its attention to Big West Conference play. The Rainbow Warriors hit the road for a three-game series at UC Riverside, beginning Friday.
