Seeing the most during my 7 days on Oahu, Beach days included! 🏝️

If you’re staying in the heart of Waikiki for a week and plan to spend two days on the beach, here’s a curated list of must-see attractions and experiences for the remaining days to help you see everything Oahu has to offer, especially for a young couple:

Beach Days (Days 1-2)

1. Waikiki Beach: Iconic and bustling, it’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and surfing. You can also try a surfing lesson or rent stand-up paddleboards.

2. Lanikai Beach: Just a short drive to Kailua, this beach offers white sand and turquoise waters, ideal for a more tranquil beach experience away from the Waikiki crowds.

3. Sunset Beach (North Shore): If you’re up for an excursion, head to Sunset Beach for an incredible late-afternoon sunset after spending the day on Oahu’s legendary North Shore.

Exploration Days (Days 3-7)

Day 3: Pearl Harbor and Historical Sights

Pearl Harbor National Memorial: Visit the USS Arizona Memorial, Battleship Missouri, and the Pacific Aviation Museum to learn about the history of WWII.

Pro Tip: Reserve tickets online to avoid long waits.

Iolani Palace: After Pearl Harbor, head downtown to visit the only royal palace in the United States, offering guided tours to explore Hawaiian history and royalty.

Kawaiahaʻo Church and King Kamehameha Statue: Walk through Honolulu’s historic district to see these iconic landmarks.

Day 4: North Shore Adventure

Waimea Bay: Swim or watch surfers tackle world-famous waves depending on the season.

Waimea Valley: Explore the lush botanical gardens and hike to Waimea Falls for a refreshing waterfall swim.

Haleiwa Town: Enjoy the charming surf town for shopping, food trucks, and a taste of local culture. Try Matsumoto’s Shave Ice while you’re here!

Dole Plantation: On your way to or from the North Shore, stop here for a tour and try their famous pineapple soft serve, Dole Whip.

Day 5: Adventure & Nature

Diamond Head Hike: Start your day early with a hike to the top of Diamond Head Crater for panoramic views of Waikiki and Honolulu. It’s a moderate trail, but worth the effort for sunrise or morning views.

Kualoa Ranch: Spend the afternoon on an ATV or horseback riding tour, or take a jungle expedition to see filming locations from movies like Jurassic Park. For thrill-seekers, they offer zip-lining as well.

Day 6: Scenic Drives & Cultural Immersion

Nuuanu Pali Lookout: Drive up the scenic Pali Highway for incredible views of the Windward Coast and learn about the famous Battle of Nuuanu.

Byodo-In Temple: Visit this stunning Buddhist temple set against the Ko’olau Mountains for a peaceful experience.

Kailua Town: Explore Kailua’s boutique shops and dine at a local favorite, Uahi Island Grill. You can also rent kayaks or head out to the nearby Lanikai Pillbox Hike for some stunning vistas.

Day 7: Waterfalls and Farewell

Manoa Falls: A short hike from Honolulu, Manoa Falls leads to a beautiful waterfall in a tropical rainforest. It’s a relatively easy and shaded walk.

Hanauma Bay: Spend your afternoon snorkeling in this protected marine life sanctuary. It’s a must-visit for those wanting to see coral reefs and colorful fish up close. Make sure to reserve your spot ahead of time online as entry is limited.

Dining & Evening Suggestions

Duke’s Waikiki: Enjoy a beachfront meal with live music at one of Waikiki’s most iconic restaurants.

House Without a Key: Perfect for a romantic evening, this spot offers sunset dining with hula performances.

Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian: Sip on a refreshing mai tai while watching the sunset from this legendary Waikiki hotel.

Additional Tips for Your Trip

Transportation: Rent a car to explore the island, especially for North Shore and East Oahu trips. Waikiki has limited parking, so plan ahead.

Cultural Experience: Attend a luau, such as Paradise Cove or Ka Moana Luau, for a fun evening filled with Polynesian performances and food.
