Honolulu Fire Department extinguishes Waikiki apartment fire

WAIKIKI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Shortly before 5 p.m. on Feb. 15 the Honolulu Fire Department responded to a fire in a 16th-story residence on Ala Moana Boulevard, which they were able to extinguish.

HFD responded about 10 minutes after the call with approximately 52 personnel, who were able to secure a water supply and fight the blaze. An off-duty firefighter who happens to live in the building was also able to initiate a fire attack on the flames.

Within minutes of HFD’s arrival the fire was fully extinguished. There were no occupants inside the unit that was affected.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the origin of the fire and the estimated damages.
