HILO, Hawaii (KHON2) — Hawaii Island police are searching for information relating to a homicide in Hilo that left one man dead.
The early morning shooting happened shortly after 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9.
Officials said South Hilo patrol officers were responding to a home on Maunakai Street when it was reported that a man was shot.
When officers arrived, they found the man on the roadway fronting the residence with a gunshot wound to the torso and appeared lifeless.
According to police, paramedics used multiple lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful.
He was brought to Hilo Benioff Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 9:39 a.m.
HPD classified the incident as a second-degree murder. The Area I Criminal Investigation Section is continuing the investigation.
