Hawaii Eagles and Chiefs fans celebrate Big Game

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Clubhouse 604 at Leilehua Golf Course has become a self-proclaimed bar for Big Game competitors. Last year, it was a San Francisco 49ers bar.

“Then when Kansas City won, the fans ended up coming in very strong and making this a Kansas City house,” said Clubhouse 604 Front House Manager Kelly Bance.

But two weeks ago, during the NFC Championship game, she walked into work and saw a sea of green jerseys.

“We have not seen the Eagles take over and we walked in and it was all green,” she said. “After the game it was red again, but we were expecting more Kansas City fans here today.”

Chiefs Kingdom made their reservations well in advance and the place was booked, and it was so well-known that it was a place for Chiefs fans to go, that people from Kansas City went there to watch the game.

“I joined the Oahu Chiefs fan Facebook page and found this was the perfect place to watch the game,” said Katie Inman, who was in Hawaii for a family wedding.

“We’re season ticket holders so we had to make sure we watched the Chiefs game amongst Chiefs fans,” said Angela Blackburn. “It makes my heart happy to see so many chiefs fans in Hawaii.”

Most were expecting more of an Eagles turnout. “I was hoping they were all going to come today, it would make this a lot more fun,” said Chiefs fan Garred Rabacal.

But there were a few Eagles fans that walked into the sea of red confident their team would pull off the win.

“My wife booked over here thinking it would be all Eagles fans, but come to find out we’re the only three in here so we’re going to stay and root on the Eagles and stand our ground,” said Dwayne Hassell.

His wife, Clarissa, is a 49ers fan. “We’re standing our ground, we’re not going to leave no matter what the outcome is, I believe the Eagles are going to win!”
