HONOLULU (KHON2) — A High Surf Advisory remains in effect for Hawaii’s north and west-facing shores going into Thursday, as strong swells continue to bring dangerous conditions to beaches across the state.
The advisory was issued by the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
MEMA warns of surf heights ranging from 12 to 16 feet along north-facing shores and 8 to 12 feet along west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and the Big Island.
The advisory is set to last until 6 p.m.
The National Weather Service is cautioning residents and visitors about the potential risks of strong breaking waves and powerful currents, which could make swimming dangerous.
Ocean safety officials advise everyone to stay out of the water when in doubt.
