Kalihi hit-and-run leaves moped driver in serious condition

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run collision early Tuesday morning that left a 30-year-old moped rider seriously injured in Kalihi.

The incident happened at around 12:25 a.m., Feb. 27, near Liliha Street and North King Street.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the moped rider was traveling southbound on Liliha Street when an unidentified vehicle rear-ended him.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop to assist or provide any information, continuing westbound on North King Street.

Police later located the vehicle on Pua Lane, but the driver had fled and remains unidentified.

Emergency Medical Services transported the injured rider to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

The man was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time and is currently recovering, though his condition remains unknown.

It is unclear whether speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
