Lefotu lifts Wahine hoops to 10th straight win

The red-hot University of Hawai‘i women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to 10 games Thursday night, defeating Cal Poly, 67-41 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center to remain atop the Big West standings.

Head coach Laura Beeman’s squad faced adversity as senior point guard Lily Wahinekapu, the team’s leader in scoring, assists, and steals, was sidelined due to illness.

However, the Rainbow Wahine (16-6, 10-2 Big West) showcased their depth, with sophomore Jovi Lefotu stepping up in a big way. Lily’s younger sister delivered a career-high 15 points and three steals in just 16 minutes to lead the offensive charge.

Mia Uhila also played a crucial role, contributing 11 points and dishing out three assists as Hawai‘i controlled the tempo and secured the win.

With the victory, the Rainbow Wahine remain in first place in the conference and will look to keep their momentum going Saturday night when they host UC Santa Barbara.

The Lady Bows and Gauchos are scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
