HONOLULU (KHON2) — Another chapter in the Miske Enterprise saga came to a close. His half-brother, John Stancil, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.
Stancil, tearfully spoke at his sentencing hearing today, saying he had no excuse for his actions and apologized to his victims.
In a plea agreement, Stancil admitted to his involvement in a crime spree that included robbery, chemical weapons attacks on two Honolulu nightclubs and a murder-for-hire plot, all under the orders of Mike Miske.
U.S. District Court Judge Derrick K. Watson said Stancil was “a key player in terrorizing the citizenry of this city and county for years” and said Stancil deserved a higher prison sentence than the 20 years handed down today, which is the maximum time allowed by law.
Stancil’s sentencing provides closure for some, but leaves lingering questions about the enterprise’s influence and what will happen with other associations who are still awaiting sentencing.
Legal analysts say Mike Miske’s death back in December has no influence on any other part of the case. Two other Miske associates are awaiting sentencing and prosecutors are continuing their civil legal action of Miske’s $20 million in assets
“The government never gets to know and arrest everybody who was involved in an organization like this, so they’re not going to need to know the full extent of the organization, but we’ve pretty much seen a big picture of it and the unraveling and dismantling of it at this point,” said legal analyst Alexander Silvert.
Stancil also received three years of supervised release following the 20 year imprisonment. Stancil’s attorney had no comment when asked if they plan to appeal the sentence.
