HONOLULU (KHON2) — A new trial is set to begin tomorrow for Eric Thompson, who is accused of murdering Waipahu acupuncturist Jon Tokuhara in January 2022.
Thompson, 45, is facing charges for the fatal shooting of Tokuhara, with prosecutors alleging the motive stemmed from an affair between Tokuhara and Thompson’s wife.
The first trial ended in a hung jury, as jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision on Thompson’s guilt.
In addition to the criminal case, Tokuhara’s mother has filed a civil lawsuit against Thompson and his wife, Joyce, seeking damages for the alleged murder.
The new trial is expected to proceed in Honolulu court starting Tuesday, January 21.
