HONOLULU (KHON2) — Oahu will not conduct its annual homeless point-in-time count this year, officials announced.
The decision was made due to the count requiring substantial resources, including staffing and funding.
Instead of the count, officials will focus those resources on direct services and programs aimed at assisting individuals experiencing homelessness.
Federal guidelines only mandate an unsheltered count during even-numbered years.
For this year’s point-in-time count, officials plan to use existing data to estimate the number of sheltered homeless individuals on the island.
