Police searching for driver in Lihue hit-and-run

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Police are actively searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian in critical condition Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on February 12, on Nāwiliwili Road near Nokekula Street. Officers said a 30-year-old man was walking in the southbound lane when he was struck by a vehicle.

The driver fled the scene before emergency responders arrived, and the vehicle’s description remains unknown.

The injured pedestrian was initially taken to Wilcox Medical Center before being airlifted to Queens Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

The Kauai Police Department is asking anyone who was on Nāwiliwili Road between 8 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday to come forward.
