HONOLULU (KHON2) — On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, hundreds of Kaiser Permanente physicians, providers, nurses, staff, and their families participated in the 2025 Kaiser Permanente Hawaii Annual Day of Service.
The event was hosted by Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) and took place across Hawaii Island, Oahu, Maui, and Kauai from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, January 20.
On Oahu, volunteers focused on biocultural restoration efforts at both Leeward and Windward sites, working to restore ecosystems and strengthen cultural connections to the land.
This marks the 15th year of the annual event, which HPMG has organized since its 50th anniversary in 2010. The group is celebrating its 65th year of service to Hawaii this year.
“We are proud to continue our long-standing tradition of giving back to the community through this impactful day of service,” said Dr. Ron K. Okamoto, HPMG President.
Notable volunteer sites on O‘ahu include Kāko‘o ‘Ōiwi in Kāne‘ohe and the Cultural Learning Center at Ka‘ala Farm in Wai‘anae. Neighbor islands will also see similar efforts, with locations such as Paeloko Learning Center on Maui and Pu‘uwa‘awa‘a on Hawai‘i Island participating in restoration projects.
